BFBS Launches Small-Scale DAB Multiplex

One of 10 stations to receive a nine-month small-scale DAB trial license by Ofcom

BFBS was recently awarded a nine-month trial DAB license from Ofcom — one of 10 stations to earn such a license — and has officially launched its own small-scale DAB multiplex.

The multiplex service is broadcasting BFBS Aldershot, BFBS Beats, BFBS Gurkha Service — a Nepali language service — as well as The Breeze, Radio Caroline and Radio Working.

“This technical trial increases connectivity for our Gurkha service and allows us to reach the wider military and veteran communities living in Hampshire and Surrey,” said Nick Beer, regional general manager for BFBS Technology. “Whilst this is a trial for a fixed period of time, we hope that this will become a permanent service in the future.”

The new BFBS radio service can be accessed by rescanning DAB radios.
