Coding Technologies, Bejing E-World to Create New Codec

Coding Technologies and Beijing E-World Technology are teaming up to create and license a new audio codec. This new spectral band replication enhanced codec, EAC 2.0, is already specified in the Chinese enhanced versatile disc format and will be targeted for Chinese applications.
Coding Technologies claims SBR enhances codec efficiency by delivering the same audio quality at half the bit rate. SBR is a part of the Digital Radio Mondiale open standard and a core component of aacPlus. Both XM Satellite Radio and Ibiquity Digital are using SBR-enhanced codecs.
Beijing E-World Technology is a government and industry sponsored company responsible for creating the new Chinese EVD format. The company and Coding Technologies are forming a new company for the new codec called Beijing Media Works.
SBR enhanced EAC will be licensed in China by the joint venture and in the rest of the world by Coding Technologies.
