Radica DRM Transmitter Debut

Radica DRM Transmitter Debut

The UK-based manufacturer and supplier Radica Broadcast Systems has unveiled a prototype Digital Radio Mondiale transmitter. Radica design engineers used a modified version of its AM 50 W transmitter as a DRM modulator and incorporated the licensed Coding Technologies algorithm to provide the necessary digital encoding.
According to Radica managing director Alan Brown, the DRM prototype transmitter was “very well received” at the IBC event held recently in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Radica plans to continue development of DRM technology in order to help make it a “viable distribution alternative” in the future.
“We think we have proved that DRM is an exciting new medium,” said Brown, “and one that is now accessible to both small manufacturers and small broadcasters alike.”
