HD Radio’s new(ish) owner, DTS, is at the International CES showing the latest in HD Radio along with a few other relevant goodies.
Not surprisingly, leading the effort is the latest in HD Radio technology. The company has announced new HD Radio “implementations from Jaguar, Dodge, Honda, Toyota VW and Subaru,” in addition to HD Radio data demos with Total Traffic Network and the Broadcaster Traffic Consortium.
There will also be tabletop and portable HD Radio-compatible products on display, including models from Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion, Sony, Denon, Outlaw, ViewQuest, Sangean and Garmin.
On a related technology front will be demonstrations of the Connected Radio platform. Connected Radio combines over-the-air FM radio along with an IP delivery of supplemental content. DTS says, “Connected Radio is currently being prototyped with a number of global OEM automobile manufacturer partners.”
There will also be demonstrations of higher resolution audio for the car. DTS calls it “Hi-Resolution Audio,” and it will shown in the Hi-Res Audio Pavilion. According to a release, DTS’ “High-Resolution Audio files [are] delivered directly to the car … Hi-Res Audio has no drop-outs, only high-resolution playback from a secure local source. … The Wi-Fi enabled system with local caching ensures beautiful, reliable sound and playback.”
