Eswatini’s EBIS Modernizes With Lawo Diamond Consoles

The IP-based infrastructure upgrade for the kingdom's radio network was led by B&I Engineering

From our Who’s Buying What page: In the Kingdom of Eswatini, located in Southern Africa, Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) radio has chosen Lawo’s diamond broadcast consoles for a major technology upgrade.

The installation is being managed by Broadcast & Installation Engineering, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to EBIS, this marks the foundation of a transition to an IP-based broadcast infrastructure.

EBIS is acquiring two Lawo diamond modular consoles, each supporting Ravenna/AES67 AoIP standards and compatible with ST2110-30/-31 protocols. Each console features a customizable layout with fader-adjacent color displays and motorized faders. They are paired with Lawo’s Power Core mixing engines, offering compatibility with AES67, MADI, analog, AES3 and Dante. “The diamond console’s intuitive interface and modular design have made it easy for our team to adapt,” said Sabelo Dlamini, director of broadcasting and information services for EBIS, in a release.

B&I Engineering was awarded the tender to install the consoles and provide training. Some personnel from EBIS even traveled to Lawo’s headquarters in Rastatt, Germany, to familiarize themselves with the equipment.

EBIS stated its next phase of the modernization will include installing a centralized IP router, helping unify workflows across its network and enable content sharing between its facilities.

According to its website, Eswatini’s national broadcaster operates its EBIS Radio 1 and EBIS Radio 2 networks on 10 frequencies across the landlocked kingdom formerly known as Swaziland.
