Empire Launches More Dynamic Light System

The Empire State Building Monday unveiled its
LED lighting system, developed by supplier Philips
Color Kinetics. Building management signed a deal with Clear Channel Media and
Entertainment and singer Alicia Keys for a light show.
threw the switch in Clear Channel New York studios with air talent from four
Clear Channel stations. The lights were synchronized to two of her songs. The
four stations played accompanying music to the light show. Keys
will perform tonight at the iHeartRadio Theater in Tribeca for first responders
and volunteers involved in Hurricane Sandy recovery.
Empire is the platform for major
TV and FM radio stations in the New York metropolitan area. Building officials
say the light system offers 16 million colors and adds new effects: “ripples, cross-fades,
sparkles, chasers, sweeps, strobes and bursts.” It mentioned greater control
and management of the lighting, as well as “superior light and vibrancy levels
in real-time, unlike the previous floodlights.”
