Facetime Still Matters: Q&A With Nautel’s Chuck Kelly

Ahead of the big spring show, Radio magazine spoke got the scoop from Nautel's director of sales

Ahead of the big spring show, Radio magazine spoke with Nautel’s Director of SalesChuck Kelly. Read our Q&A as you make plans to head to Vegas, and get excited.

Radio: How has business been for the company since last years NAB Show?

Actually, last year was the best ever for Nautel, with growth in all areas.

Radio:What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend at the 2015 NAB Show?

We see two things being critical efficiency is a hot button for many right now with electrical costs rising, and IP connectivity for smart control and monitoring, as well as audio transport is key.

Radio:What new products will your company be showing? Why should attendees visit your booth?

Were so excited for people to see the new NX-5 and NX-10 AM transmitters! We had a huge audience for our introductory webinar a week ago and it seems there have been a lot of folk waiting for a new technology, high efficiency AM transmitter at the 5/10kW levels. Well also bring our new GV-30 to the show for the first time, with more efficiency and smaller size. Lastly, we might have a few surprises up our sleeves in the HD Radio area come and see

Radio: Very mysterious! Also, the Internet has changed the way people do business. Some would say that it has rendered shows such as the NAB obsolete. Is this true?

Absolutely not obsolete, but the Internet does change the way attendees approach the show. For many, some pre-show Internet research helps visitors know the products they want to see and maybe gives them some very specific questions they may have for the vendor. So the Internet is changing things but nothing replaces the opportunity to open the doors on a product that a customer may need to live with for the next 10-20 years. We appreciate that and make sure we bring a good representation of the key products that customers may be coming to see and where possible run them live. We also ensure that customers get good exposure to our design teams and support personnel because face to face time still matters.

Radio:Whats your favorite thing about the show? Least favorite thing?

Favorite thing: Seeing so many folks weve known for so many years. Least favorite thing: So little time, so many folks to see! J

Radio:Do you have any suggestion that would make the show a better experience for exhibitors and/or attendees?

Bring a lunch seriously, trade show food is notoriously expensive, and not terribly healthy or tasty.

Radio:Anything else we should know?
